Is it gossip or valuable information?
Socrates had a triple filter test for evaluating the value of information received (or that you pass) can be tested for validity or value. His approach is very applicable to communications today.
Truth – are you sure the information is accurate (would you stake your reputation on it)
Goodness – is the information helpful or good for the person (or leads to positive results)
Useful – Is it beneficial to know?
If someone is telling you something, pass it through these filters to understand if it’s gossip or actionable information.
